The Forum launches water bottle refilling station

    The Forum Norwich - 19 Jun 2019

The Forum, Norwich is supporting the drive to reduce single-use plastic by launching a new water bottle refilling station.

The launch took place on National Refill Day, a nationwide campaign to prevent plastic pollution by making it easier to reuse and refill on the go than to buy a single use bottle.

Refill is a not-for-profit campaign seeking to reduce marine pollution. Thousands of businesses including The Forum and Café Bar Marzano, located in the Forum, have joined the campaign.

The new filling station, located in the main atrium is touchless and shows how many bottles have been saved thanks to people refilling. The refilling station was officially switched on by Teresa Wood, Head of Estates and Matthew White, Refill Norwich Coordinator.

The Forum is leading the way reducing its environmental impact. Last year’s Norwich Science Festival co-ordinated by The Forum focused on plastic and marine pollution as a key theme. The Forum has also reduced C02 emissions by 100 tonnes per year by installing new motion sensitive LED lighting in its car park and other areas of the Forum.

Commenting Head of Estates Teresa Wood said: “The Forum is committed to reducing its environmental impact and that of the thousands of visitors who use the building every day. We’re proud to be joining the Refill campaign helping people across Norwich and the UK reduce single-use plastic and we hope that our visitors will benefit from this machine.”

Matthew White, Refill Norwich Coordinator said: “This exciting new Refill station has the potential to stop demand for a huge amount of single use plastic bottles, thereby helping to protect our environment. There are now over 100 Refill Stations all over Norwich - this availability of free healthy drinking water, from friendly businesses, means it's easier than ever to quit the plastic bottle habit.”

The official Refill app is available for smartphones identifying locations across Norwich and nationwide. For more information visit https://refill.org.uk
