Dive into history with this free researchers course.

This course is fully booked.

We’ll explore known narratives and discover hidden histories through books, archives and film footage as well as listening to the oral history testimonies of many of the Americans who served and the locals who knew them.

No prior research experience needed, just an enthusiasm for the history of our county. This course is led by the American Library team.

Your discoveries will contribute to the content of an exhibition at The Forum in September 2025.

Sessions will include family history, military records, music and dance of the 1940s. You will also have a chance to shape the sessions yourself as we find out new stories and make new connections within this history.

Please note you must register for a place for this course, and it is a ten week course, with a 1 week break between class 3 and class 4 (Good Friday).

These sessions will run from 10.30am-12noon each Friday.

Silver Wings is presented by The Forum in partnership with the American Library, Memorial to the 2nd Air Division, 8th Air Force, United States Army Air Forces.

Silver Wings: The US Army Air Forces in WWII Norfolk will culminate in a ten-day exhibition and series of talks at The Forum, presented Fri 12 - Sun 21 September 2025 as part of Norfolk Heritage Open Days.

Silver Wings is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund, and supported by The Paul Bassham Charitable Trust, The Second Air Division Memorial Trust, The Alan Boswell Group Charitable Trust and Anguish's Educational Foundation.
