Norwich Science Festival is back, 15-22 February 2024, with fantastic free events, activities, discoveries, and the much-loved Explorium, as well as a brilliant programme of ticketed events.
Our favourite Science Festival will take over the building, bringing incredible half-term entertainment for all ages. The Explorium is open every day of the festival, 10am-4pm, with loads of free activities for everyone to have a go at. Plus, The Explorium’s getting a new look for 2025, with brand new zones – and the same great fun!
There’s plenty of kid friendly activities at Norwich Science Festival, from poo identification to building birds and virtual reality flight simulators! Activities in The Explorium change throughout the week, so if you split your visits up, you can enjoy a whole new swathe of exhibitors ready to entertain.

Find out morePop along on Tuesday 18 to enjoy free performances of Boom, Bang, Whoosh! A Relaxed Performance takes place at 9.30am, with additional shows at 2pm and 5pm, all happening outside The Forum. Don’t miss this thrilling show as Dr Nikhil Mistry demonstrates the science of combustion, complete with colourful flames, rocketing bottles and much more.
Feel like defying the rules of physics? Don’t miss the Oobleck Challenge, on Sun 16 from 1pm, where you can have a go at running on a non-Newtonian fluid – which is solid if you apply enough force, or liquid if not… Will you be able to stay on top, or will you sink to the bottom? (Ages 16+ only)
For those who are made of strong stuff, the Animal Dissection is a unique opportunity to discover the inner workings of an animal. Taking place on Sat 22 Feb from 11am, this is the chance to learn from Prof Ben Garrod and Dr Jess French as they guide you through a dissection and demonstrate the wonder of biology. Please note the animal died of natural causes and was donated for education purposes.
Throughout the week, catch performances of our family play, Food Scientists to the Rescue! This fun interactive play is designed for ages 5+ and is completely free to attend – booking is advised, although limited spaces available on the day.
Take a trip over the road to Sir Isaac Newton Sixth Form for fantastic workshops designed for kids. Priced at just £6 per child, these workshops explore the everyday marvels around us, from electricity to soil to rainbows.

Of course, there’s plenty more amazing events taking place at Norwich Science Festival, from Darcey Bussell showing how movement can boost mental health, to the Explorer Dome which captures the wonder of the stars.
