The Forum, Norwich, which is managed by The Forum Trust, an independent self-financing charity, has reduced energy consumption in its car park by over 80% following the commissioning and installation of a new smart LED lighting system.

Visited by over 35,000 visitors per week The Forum’s central location ensures that the car park is a popular and convenient option for visitors looking to park in central Norwich, with all profits invested in the Forum’s free activities programme.

Installed by Wirefield Ltd, a leading independent manufacturer of energy efficient industrial, retail and commercial lighting the system has also reduced CO2 emissions by over 100 tonnes per year.

The Eye-Wi system works by automatically brightening lights when cars approach and switching parking bay lighting on and off as required. The move is part of an ambitious ongoing project at the Forum led by Head of Estates Teresa Wood to ensure that the building continues to use the latest environmentally friendly and cost effective systems.

“The Eye-Wi control system provides us with the maximum benefits in terms of energy and cost savings. Our visitors have already noticed a difference and we are delighted that this new system helps The Forum reduce both costs and our environmental impact” said Teresa.

The savings made by the new system will be invested in The Forum’s programme of free events and activities including Norwich Science Festival, Norwich Gaming Festival, Heritage Open Days and Makers’ Month.
