Silver Wings: The US Army Air Forces in WWII Norfolk

An exhibition and event series at The Forum, presented as part of Heritage Open Days.

80 years after the end of World War II (WWII), a new project comes to Norfolk in 2025 honouring the history of our local community, and the influence of the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) during the war.

WWII is a war predominantly no longer remembered within living memory. This project provides a final opportunity to preserve the stories of American servicemen and women stationed in Norfolk - and the British communities that welcomed them.

Silver Wings: The US Army Air Forces in WWII Norfolk brings this untold and forgotten history to life - from tales of jitterbug dancing and donuts, to first-hand accounts of service and sacrifice.

Join us at The Forum for a ten-day exhibition and event series, presented Fri 12 - Sun 21 September 2025 as part of Norfolk Heritage Open Days.

We'll be exploring Norfolk's rich wartime history with a free programme of talks, guided walks, film screenings, and family-friendly activities.
