You too could save a life! Find out more about stem cell donation and join the register.

Every 14 minutes, someone in the UK is diagnosed with blood cancer. When David was going through treatment for Stage 4 lymphoblastic lymphoma, his Norwich City community was his rock. But the biggest assist came from an anonymous stem cell donor from the Global Registry, in Germany named Tobi.

David received a life-saving stem cell transplant at the end of 2020. 5 years later, he finally met his donor, Tobi for the first time. A fellow football fan, Tobi came over from Germany for a match at Carrow Road, and David has been to Munich for a match at the Allianz. The connection was instant. As David put it: “We’re brothers. We’re family.”

About DKMS

DKMS as a charity is committed to helping patients with blood cancer or blood related disorders, providing second chances at life to those in need of a transplant, and raising funds to cover donor registration costs.

Each patient who needs a stem cell transplant requires a genetic ‘match’ with a potential donor. This can be like finding a needle in a haystack. Only around 1 in 3 people find a match within their family.

DKMS strives to find a matching donor for every patient in need. If you are a match for someone, the process of donation is usually very similar to giving blood.

Anyone aged between 16-55, in general good health and not already registered can register as a Stem Cell Donor with DKMS.
